where do I start with this book. first off it won a national book award. second I love that it takes place in my home state. third do I think that it was good??? I liked it to some extent I love coming of ages books don't get me wrong "Perks of being a Wall Flower" was awesome. this book had a lot of boner talk in it for me, yes its written in a first person point of view and the first person is an Indian teenager but my god if that was taken out of the book I think that I would have loved it. I think it is true in nature of how Indians are perceived in the 20th century. The Absolutley True Diary of a Part Time Indian, took place in Spokane and on a reservation that is poor and its one young boys journey out of there and to bigger better things. I loved the struggle between him and his best friend I felt a real connection with the book and how high school can be at times. I hated the fact that most of this book is o true with the amount of tragic death that happens to Indians. I felt like the whole time i was reading this that something magical was going to happen in the end. to some extent a friendship mended is magical but i wanted this kid to get out of Spokane and move on with the grades he received and the journey his life took him on you just keep wishing for more for him. This book has a lot of language in it that I feel only high school kids should probably read if it was for kids. I wouldn't want my 12 year old daughter read it.
