Atlantia by Ally Condie

This is my new pick for my personal fun reading. This is back to the dystopian theme that I just can not get enough of. So far this is really a great book it scared me at first because the beginning reminded me of Divergient but it quickly moved to its own kind of dystopian. I am about a fourth of the way though an can not put it down. can not wait to write about it in the next few days after I finish it.

Baby Count Down

As I approach my due date and have now been put on bed rest from work I now have a lot of time on my hands as my toddler is in daycare still. The hubby is away at work and I find my self wondering what it might be like to be a stay at home mom. what does one do all day long? I know that once my son is out of daycare I will have lot to do, also once this baby comes out in the next week life will change as we know it. I try to imagine myself being a stay at home mom. I have worked since I was 14, I love to shop and I love to buy things for others to how them I care. So thus my problem at hand I spend too much money and I am looking at quitting my job to raise my children. Which I mind you  was my dream come true. What is my time going to be spent doing? well I have started to put together a lesson plan for my older son for preschool, I have also decided to write my own book. It will be a young adult book, fantasy with a little science mixed into it with some real world issues going on in the world. I feel as though it should take me more than a year to write this book as I have never taken much writing classes and my process is scattered. I know the plot I know the cliff hangers but it is the tying them all together that will be the hard part. The book has no title yet. wish me luck!!!

The Kitchen House

This is one book outside the dystopian theme that I normally read. I enjoyed the book but makes me look back at where our country came from and where we are today. In the late 1700's the kitchen house was a common term known for where the black would sleep and cook and prepare the white peoples food. they sleep on pallets on the ground and did not know what it was like to sleep on a bed. one day the master of the plantation returns home with a little white  girl that was orphaned on her trip over and as she did not have a place the master took her in as a slave and she slept with the black and worked with the black. on her 18th birthday she would then be a free woman and able to make her own decisions. During this point in the history there was a lot of drama regarding who was ok to date and who was not ok to date rape ran livid with female blacks. It was normal for a black woman to have to "service" a white master, weather she wanted to or not. This ultimately came down to la family secret of the plantations master having had a child with a black woman and he kept the child with his slaves to watch over her. This child knew that she was a secret and had to watch her father have other children with his wife and see them treated much better than her self. the wife miss judge the situation thinking that Bell daughter of the plantation owner was a mistress. this drove the wife in to such a downward spiral that she ended up drugging her self most of the time. later in life the children she had would live thinking that bell was their fathers mistress, when in reality she was nothing but his daughter. This then set in action a family ordeal Marshall was the plantations owners son and he followed in his fathers foot steps and had him self a mistress and a wife. it drove him mad the way his father died and what he left him with on the plantation. I will not give away the ending in this blog as I urge others to read it a well and to see how far our lifes have come from these dark periods of time.
